Art installation at the southern forecourt of The Mill
The sculpture “Cycle” reflects the historical identity of the Mlynské Nivy area in Bratislava.
Its form and symbolism draw inspiration from the watermills that once operated here, powered by the network of Danube branches and waterways.
The geometry of millstones creates both a visual and conceptual bridge between the past and the present, while its contemporary design naturally complements the architecture of The Mill building. The characteristic circular motion of millstones symbolizes the cyclical nature of life — from birth and growth to fulfillment and decline.
The five elements of the sculpture capture movement through time and space, reminding us that time may pause for a moment, yet never truly stops. Two defining points of existence — beginning and ending — are represented by the forms of a cuboid and a horizontal circle, both accentuated by integrated lighting.
A tree is embedded into the horizontal circular element, symbolizing hope, renewal, and the continuity of life.
This message is further emphasized by the choice of a Japanese pine, a species admired for its resilience and natural beauty.
The ultramarine blue surface adds another layer of meaning — a reference to water and sky, the elements of life and infinity. At the same time, it creates a striking contrast with the white concrete, enhancing the sculpture’s visual clarity and harmony.

Technical execution
The creation of Cycle was a close collaboration between the artist and the technical team
led by Juraj Gajdoš at Rapid IS.
Casting the sculpture in high-quality white concrete presented several technical challenges
that required precise execution.
A total of 7 m³ of white concrete was used
Individual components weigh up to 5 tons
The result is a unique work of art that merges the history of the site with contemporary aesthetics and a timeless message about the eternal cycle of life.
